The Yorktown can be viewed at Patriots Point naval and Maritime Museum, along with the USS Laffey, the Vietnam Experience Exhibit, Cold War Memorial, the Medal of Honor Museum, and a lot of military aircraft from different periods. You can also take a tour of Fort Sumter from this location, and they have a great gift shop for your souvenir needs!
Charleston City Market
The Charleston City Market (founded in the 1790s) is one of the oldest public marketplaces in the United States and is open all year. The market is open to the public for tours and opens at 9:30 a.m. and closes at 6 p.m. every day. The market is located on Market Street in Downtown Charleston and spans four city blocks. The City Market is a terrific location to go if you’re looking for souvenirs from Charleston, plus there are plenty of great restaurants around! Beautiful and historic handcrafted sweetgrass baskets, which originated in Africa and have been passed down through generations, are also available for purchase.
Angel Oak Tree
If you’re in the region, the Angel Oak Tree on John’s Island is a must-see! The tree is roughly 66 feet tall and is considered to be 400-500 years old (others claim it is much older). The length of this tree’s branches is incredible (the longest is 187 feet). Souvenirs can be purchased in a gift shop beside the tree!

The Battery is named after a Civil War defensive battery that once stood on the site. The Battery is free to visit and is located near the point of the Charleston peninsula.
Old Slave Mart Museum
The Old Slave Mart Museum is a horrible part of Charleston’s history, as it is where slave auctions took place. The ancient Slave Mart museum, built in 1859, is located on 6 Chalmers Street in downtown Charleston, one of Charleston’s few remaining cobblestone streets. The Old Slave Mart Museum has a number of educational placards to read, as well as knowledgeable staff who can answer questions and artifacts from the time period.
